Everyday Magic

My mother religiously drove me across town to my favorite craft store every time I adopted a new hobby, and bought cans of spray paint for me, because they want you to be mature enough to use it appropriately. We'll pretend mom and I used it only on the canvases we bought.

My father would live in the woods off of the land if he could. In high school, I tried to take him to see the newest Taken movie for Father'sDay. I was not always a successful planner, because I did not think about buying tickets ahead of time, and they were entirely sold out for the day. But what wasn't sold out was Me Before You, and that's what we saw and not only saw but discussed afterwards, the good and the sad.

I got to be my brother's sidekick my freshman year of high school, feeling so much cooler than I was getting to hang out with the seniors; feeling so special a couple years later when he chose me to go on an adventure with the cans of spray paint I still kept in my room to create a message for his now wife, then girlfriend.

My husband has listened to me rattle on about Taylor Swift since we met, and now when someone makes a comment about how it was rumored she'd be at an Eagles game, and other people question it, he's the one saying, oh, because her boyfriend's brother plays for the Eagles.

I have never had any interest in basketball, but he always has. This is my second year in his fantasy basketball league, and I own two of my own basketball jerseys, three if you count the One Tree Hill one I hang next to the others in my closet.

I told my best friend my lifelong dream has always been to write a book. She said to let her know when the book tour is so she can come along.

This is how we create magic in each other's lives daily: by opting into each others' passions, interests, whims, and dreams.
